Behind every great venue, there is a great story. The Segerstrom Performing Arts Center opened in the 1960's to answer Orange County's call for a world class venue for live music. It rose to the challenge, providing the Philharmonic Society of Orange County and the Pacific Chorale and Pacific Symphony with a concert hall suited to the acoustical and seating caliber of their performances. The vision became a reality in 1986 with a world premier featuring Leontyne Price singing the National Anthem and performance of Aaron Copeland's A Lincoln Portrait narrate by actor James Whitmore. With the addition of a 500 seat concert hall christened with a performance by none other than the World Renowned Placido Domingo in 2006, the Segerstrom Performing Arts Center continued to grow over the years receiving national attention and worldwide acknowledgement as a major American center of art and culture. Today the Segerstrom continues to support artistic excellence in the community through live performance, providing an opportunity for entertainment and education to all who enter its doors.
