After being motivated by their wives, returning home from a 1954 musical performance in a tent, radio broadcaster Frank Ford and nightclub owner Lee Gruber decided to open a venue dedicated to bringing top performances to suburban locations. The result was the NYCB Theater, located in Jericho, New York. With seating for 2,870, the theater in the round style venue opened in 1956 on the site of an abandoned lime pit on near what was to become John. F. Kennedy International Airport. Skyrocketing to popularity in its first year, the venue was eventually overtaken by Live Nation, expanding the list of performances to include some of the biggest musical performances in the nation. Performers to grace the stage include, the legendary Doors, the Supremes, the Pointer Sisters, Frank Sinatra, and Bruce Springsteen, just to scratch the surface. it has also played host to several professional Wrestling tournaments, as Total Nonstop Action Wrestling has performed there several imps. Having outlived its expectations, the NYCB still stands playing host to some of the most relevant and talented performers of the day. Maybe men should take their wives advice more often.
