Since opening its doors in 2012 with a string of sold out shows by Jay-Z, the Barclay center has continued to host renowned performers including Madonna, Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen and Barbara Streisand, ranking in the global top five for gross revenue and attendance by Billboard and Venues Today. Additional critical acclaim came to the center early and in large numbers. In its first years, the Barclay Center received the 2012 Pollstar Award Best New Major Concert Venue, the 2013 Sports Business Awards Facility of the Year, as well as the Architizer A+ Building of the Year Award and the honorary Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce Building Award for Ecomonic Development. However, all those prestigious awards have done nothing to tarnish the Center's old school Brooklyn character.
