When a theater opens in 1921 as the most technologically advanced theater in the US, one only has to wonder how it stands up to 2017. The State Theater seem to have done pretty well. The 2,181 seat theatre was designed in free Italian Renaissance style with a glass floor lit from underneath to produce the stunning visual effects that, along with the first well made air conditioning system, made the theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota such a major and elaborate attraction. With a Wurlitzer pipe organ and neon marquee running the length of the entire theater, the venue, first intended as a movie house, became one of the most celebrated and groundbreaking theaters of its time, proudly claiming the largest movie screen west of the Mississippi River. Since its reopening in 1991, the State theatre has hosted Broadway productions including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Sweeney Todd and concerts by musical legends Patti Smith and Gordon Lightfoot. For a theatrical experience as amazing in 2017 as it was in 1921, go back to the future at the State Theater in Minneapolis.
