If you like your livestock live, your cartoon characters larger than life, and your food on a stick, you're going to love the Minnesota State Fair. Also known as, "The Great Minnesota Get Together," the Minnesota state Fair is the second largest in the nation, running for twelve days from late August to September in Falcon Heights Minnesota, midway between St. Paul and Minneapolis. Visitors to the fair can expect to be entertained by state residents showing off their abilities in arts and cooking, however, it may be the creation of the butter sculpture which has the biggest impact on the crowds. Every year, a new Princess Kay of the Milky Way is picked to promote the Minnesota Dairy Industries. Job duties include posing for several hours in a glass walled refrigerator as a block of butter is carved with her likeness. Food on a stick is another big attraction, with the latest additions including spaghetti on a stick, and alligator on a stick, and the hot dish on a stick. Other gastronomical delights include two types of bacon. "The Pig Licker" is chocolate covered, while the "Big Fat Bacon" is a quarter pound of maple glazed heaven. Make plans to head there this summer, say "hey" to Princess Kay, and try to keep the deep fried food to a minimum.
