When Meadow Brook amphitheater, located on the campus of Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan opened in 1964, it was the summer residence of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, until the agenda was broadened in 1968 to include ballet. However, by the early 1970's the prevalence of rock and pop was undeniable. When Palace Sports and Entertainment assumed management, the theater's schedule expanded to meet the demands of the new generation and the 7,700 capacity theater was upgraded to include more pavilion seating, a new concessions facility, and a state of the art sound system. Now a venue for contemporary and rock events, the Meadow Brook continues to flourish, offering entertainment from such luminaries as the Goo Goo Dolls, Gordon Lightfoot, and Idina Menzell.
