When a stadium opens its doors with a gala featuring Diana Ross, Dean Martin, andFrank Sinatra,it is off to a very auspicious beginning. Located in the appropriately named Paradise, Nevada, the Thomas and Mack center is a 19,000 seat arena located on the University of Nevada Las Vegas campus and the home of the UNLV Runnin' Rebels basketball team. Also known as "the Shark Tank," in tribute to superhero UNLV coach, Jerry Tarkanian, the arena has been used primarily for basketball, but it has also hosted some significant arena football, boxing, and mixed martial arts events and has been a venue for many top selling musical artists. After Frank, Dean, and Diana, the arena showed its versatility by hosting such rock 'n' roll greats as Motley Crue, Elton John, and Aerosmith. On January 25, 1992, Guns N'Roses performed the largest attendance single show concert in front of a crowd of 17,590 during the Use Your Illusion Tour, only to have it broken on November 18,1991, when U2 performed in front of 17,771.
