The Roy Thomson Hall opened in Toronto, Canada in1982 with an inaugural gala concert by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and has been a staple and icon of culture and performing arts in the Toronto community ever since. With visits by Queen Elizabeth herself on its resume, the Roy Thomson has been the venue for a string of notable events and honorable appearances by such symphonic music greats as Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Jeanne Pierre Rampal, and Isaac Stern. Catering to film as well, the Roy Thomson was a the site of the Gala Screening for the Toronto International film Festival, welcoming directors and film stars from Oscar winning films, such as "Slumdog Millionaire," and "Black Swan." Not content to rest on its laurels, the Roy Thomson is ever expanding, with additions such as the American Express lounge, offering some of the finest wines and spirits, and the North Court Patio to accommodate a free concert series.
