The Athenaeum Theatre is a performing arts venue in Chicago, IL. It opened in the early 1911 as part of a social and recreational center built to serve the needs of the expanding parish of the Alphonsus Catholic Church. It still stands as the city’s oldest continuously operating Off-Loop theatre. It has a capacity of 985 and is ideal for the hosting of opera, dance, orchestra performances, comedy and dramatic productions. It also contains smaller theaters that serve as home to a number of resident performance groups as well as a cabaret space called Curtain Call Club.
