The name may not be glamourous, but there is not much glamour needed at the arena that serves as the home venue for the down and dirty University of New Mexico Lobo Basketball teams. Named "the Pit" because of its unique subterranean design, the arena on the University of New Mexico Campus, Albuquerque, has a seating capacity of 13,480 for concerts, and 15,411 for basketball games. Despite the lackluster name, the Pit is recognized as one of the top venues for college basketball in New Mexico, and also as one of the loudest. The Lobos have won more than 80 percent of their games played there, and renovations have added state of the art amenities for coaches fans and players. It has also hosted frequent NCAA games, including the 1983 Final Four. So, if you like your basketball loud, and a little underground, go and lend your voice to the legendary Pit, "a mile high and louder than….."
