More commonly known as the Holmes Dome, the George M. Holmes Center is an 8,325 seat arena located on the campus of AppalachianState University in Boone, North Carolina, and home to the Appalachian State Mountaineers men's and women's basketball teams. Designed to provide a facility for the school's Department of Health, Leisure, and Exercise science, the structure supports the academic progress of the university and houses cultural events, trade shows, graduation, and other public activity. The cornerstone of the University campus, the George M. Holmes Convocation center proudly serves as home to the High Country Grizzlies, of the American Arena League, and features a 300 meter mondo track circling th upper concourse for field teams and indoor tracks. It most notable opened in 2000 with a celebration and basketball game between Appalachian and North Carolina.
