Harold Brasington's visions of stock cars became a reality in 1950 when he opened what was to become the Darlington Raceway in Darlington, South Carolina. His plan to create a true oval racetrack changed slightly to accommodate a nearby fishing hole, resulting in what is now the track's signature egg shape. Sixty five years later, the Darlington Raceway has earned the title of the track "Too Tough to Tame, and its place in history as the original paved NASCAR speedway is unmatched, continuing to partner with the community to host events each year.
