Appropriately located at 1 Ice Dogs Way, the Meridian Centre is a 5,300 seat arena located in downtown St. Catherines, Ontario. As the name would suggest, the center is the Home to the Ontario Hockey League's Niagara Ice Dogs,and the Niagrara River Lions of the National Basketball League of Canada. Ice Dogs history was made at the Center when the team won their first game there in front of a sellout crowd of 5,300 in 2014, only to be broken later when the OHL playoffs required the sale of standing room tickets to cater to a sellout crowd of 5,300, the largest in franchise history. Another record breaking event occurred in true Meridian Centre style when the Centre hosted the IIHF World Women's U18 championship resulting in the largest hockey crowd in history with and total tournament attendance of 34,523 witnessing the nail biting overtime 3-2 victory for the United States over Canada. In addition to the intense sporting experience, another of the site's main attractions is the St. Catharine's Sports Hall of Fame. Founded in 1990, the Hall was constructed to recognize the outstanding achievements of male and female athletes who made a major contribution to the development of sports in St. Catherines and went on to success at national and international levels. For a city proud of its sports achievements, Ontario provides a fitting showcase for its athletic past, present, and future in the walls of the Meridian Center.
