A gem of the Interlochen, Michigan community the Interlochen Center for the Performing Arts opened way back in 1928 in a mission to provide more opportunities for musicians to perform together. Since then, it has proved itself to be a survivor. Not even the financial struggles of the Great Depression could bring it down, thanks to overwhelming support from the community. By the time the 1930's rolled around, the Interlochen had established itself as a leader in musical educations, when the Interlochen Orchestra performed at the New York World's Fair in 1939. Since then, notable events and accomplishments at the Interlochen include the launching of FM public radio station, WIAA, and the birth of the Interlochen Arts Festival in 1964, bringing the Philadelphia Orchestra and Van Cliborn to the Center. Come down and see this facility that gives to its community and be part of the community that gives back to it.
